What is wood-plastic composite?
WPC, short for Wood–Plastic Composite, is not solid wood. It is an engineered composite material designed for outdoor applications.
WPC is manufactured by combining wood flour, bamboo fiber, or agricultural plant fibers (such as straw powder) with PE, PP, or PVC plastic resins, together with performance-enhancing additives. The mixture is then processed through high-temperature extrusion or molding, encapsulating the wood fibers within a plastic matrix.
Typically, wood fibers account for 35%–70% of the material, with the remaining portion consisting of plastic resins and additives. This unique composition allows WPC to combine the natural appearance of wood with the durability, weather resistance, and low-maintenance benefits of plastic.
What is WPC outdoor fitness equipment?
WPC outdoor fitness equipment is not made entirely of WPC (Wood–Plastic Composite). Instead, it is a combination of steel and WPC, designed to provide both structural strength and an attractive natural appearance.
The internal load-bearing structure is made of galvanized steel or steel tubing, while the outer column covers and decorative panels are manufactured from WPC (Wood–Plastic Composite). This creates the wood-grain appearance commonly seen on modern outdoor fitness equipment.
1. Load-Bearing Steel Frame
The main structural components—including exercise bars, rotating shafts, connecting brackets, and support frames—are manufactured from steel to provide the strength and durability required for safe outdoor exercise.
2. Decorative WPC Cladding
WPC is primarily used for column covers, side panels, and decorative elements. It enhances the appearance of the equipment, improves weather resistance, and blends naturally into outdoor landscapes, while not serving as a structural load-bearing material.
WPC outdoor fitness equipment has several characteristics
- Natural Wood Appearance
- Excellent Weather Resistance
- Comfortable to Touch
- Low Maintenance
- Eco-Friendly
Limitations
Although WPC offers excellent durability for outdoor use, prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause gradual color fading over time.
Because WPC is not intended for high-impact or heavy load-bearing applications, the equipment’s structural strength relies on its internal steel frame, while the WPC components serve primarily as decorative and protective cladding.
